Space to explore the mother you are becoming

“Becoming a mother leave no woman as it found her. It unravels her and rebuilds her. It cracks her open, takes her to her edges.

It’s both beautiful and brutal; often at the same time” - Nikki McCahon

Motherhood changes us in ways we don't always expect. Alongside the love, connection and joy, there can be grief for the parts of ourselves we've lost, uncertainty about who we are now, changes in our relationships, and the quiet question of where we fit into it all.

Matrescence is the name given to the profound transition into motherhood. Much like adolescence, it involves changes to our identity, emotions, relationships and sense of self. Yet while we often prepare for the arrival of a baby, we rarely talk about the transformation happening within the mother herself.

You can love your children deeply and still find motherhood hard. You can feel grateful and overwhelmed, fulfilled and lost, all at once. There is room for all of it.

Matrescence mentoring offers a warm, supportive space to pause, reflect and make sense of your experience of motherhood. It's an opportunity to turn some of the care and attention you give to everyone else back towards yourself.

Drawing on my training in Motherhood Studies and my experience supporting women through the perinatal period, I'll walk alongside you as you explore the parts of motherhood that feel challenging, confusing or simply hard to put into words.

Together, we might explore your changing identity, the expectations you've carried into motherhood, the pressures of being a 'good' mum, or the ways your relationships and priorities have shifted. We can make space for the grief and ambivalence that sometimes accompany this transition, reconnect with the parts of yourself that feel lost, and explore what you need to feel more grounded and supported.

There is no expectation that you need to change anything about yourself or find all the answers. Sometimes, being able to talk openly, feel understood and see your experience in a new light is a meaningful place to begin.

Our sessions are guided by what you need most. You might be navigating the early months of motherhood, adjusting to life with another baby, returning to work, feeling disconnected from yourself, or finding that the mother you thought you'd be looks different from the mother you are.

This space can help you:

  • Make sense of the emotional and identity shifts that come with motherhood.

  • Explore feelings of overwhelm, guilt, grief, ambivalence or uncertainty without judgement.

  • Understand how your own upbringing, values and expectations shape your experience of mothering.

  • Reconnect with your needs, values and sense of self beyond your role as a mother.

  • Navigate changing relationships, boundaries and the mental load of family life.

  • Find a more compassionate way of relating to yourself and the mother you are becoming.

My approach is gentle, curious and grounded in the understanding that every mother's experience is different. There is no single right way to move through Matrescence, and no timeline for finding your feet.

My hope is that our time together helps you feel more understood, more connected to yourself, and more confident in finding a way of mothering that feels authentic to you.

Because becoming a mother isn't just about learning how to care for your baby. It's also about making space for the woman you are becoming along the way.
