Nurturing you as you nurture your baby

As you nurture your baby, may you be nurtured, too.

When a baby is born, so is a mother. As you get to know your little one, you’re also getting to know a new version of yourself. It’s a time of enormous change, and while so much attention is placed on caring for your baby, you deserve care and nurturing, too.

The postnatal period can be beautiful, exhausting, overwhelming and everything in between. After growing and birthing your baby, your body needs time to heal, your emotions need space, and you deserve the opportunity to rest, recover and find your feet in this new chapter. You don’t need to do it all, and you certainly don’t need to do it alone.

My role as your postnatal doula is to care for you and your family in whatever ways feel most helpful. Sometimes that might mean holding your baby while you shower, nap or enjoy a meal with both hands. It might be preparing something nourishing to eat, helping with the washing or dishes, or supporting you as you navigate feeding and settling your baby. Other times, it might mean sitting beside you with a cup of tea, listening as you talk through your birth experience, or making space for the feelings that can come with becoming a mother.

If you have older children, I can help them feel included and cared for as your family adjusts to life with a new baby. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, we can slow things down and work out what you need most in that moment. There’s no expectation to entertain me, tidy your house or have everything together. This is your time, and you are welcome to show up exactly as you are.

Every mother, baby and family is different, which is why my support is always tailored to you. You might want a little extra help when your partner returns to work, when family support winds down, or when the reality of those early weeks begins to sink in. You might need regular visits or simply someone to call on when things feel like a lot. Together, we can create a plan that works for your family, with flexible support that can change as your needs do.

At EMpowered Mothering, I believe that caring for a mother is one of the most important ways we can care for a baby. My hope is that you feel held, nourished and understood, with more space to rest, connect with your baby and grow into motherhood in your own way.

Because you matter too.
